Congress and the Biden Administration have proposed new legislation and regulations, respectively, which may significantly impact the tech community and your business. Before you meet with your congressional delegation in the afternoon, we want to update you on these policy debates and their potential impact through a series of speakers and panel discussions, which will include:

1.  9:00-10:00am - R&D Tax Amortization - recent changes to the ability of companies to amortize research expenditures under IRC Section 174 could increase taxable income for many tech companies.  Our speaker will outline the genesis of this R&D tax change, proposed legislative fixes and ways that the tech community can get involved.

Panelists Include:
Nicole Kaeding, Senior Manager, Public Policy, Amazon
Derek Theurer, Republican Chief Tax Counsel, House Ways & Means Committee
Barry Devine, Tri-Merit Specialty Tax Professionals

2.  10:00-11:00am - Data Privacy – the patchwork of state data privacy laws which impact the tech community can be difficult and expensive to navigate.  Our panel of experts will discuss these state laws, especially laws recently passed in Virginia and California, and will give us an update on Congressional efforts to create a uniform national data privacy standard.

Panelists Include:
Jennifer Everett, Partner, Jones Day
David Morrell, Partner, Jones Day
Carl Holshouser, Senior Vice President and Corporate Secretary, TechNet
